Dogville

Boring, Boring, Boring.....didn't get the point. Is the message that deep down, everyone is cruel and takes advantage of those in poorer conditions? And everyone who has power uses it with no regrets?
I'll see it in a couple of years again. I was in a pragmatical, happy mood....that doesn't help to understand european movies :-D

Lars deeply hates the human nature, and Dogville is just his way of showing his hatred. Dogville is story of a fugitive young woman (Grace), who arrives at a small town (Dogville) and that in return of shelter gladly acceps to serve the community. Grace is supported by the local community leader (can't remember his name, but its the tall blonde guy) that sees Grace's beauty and kindness has the opportunity he was waiting for bringing a new life and happiness to the people of Dogville. The young leader (through his lectures to the community) was never able to do achieve this purpose, so he is really looking for a new approach. Has the plan is put into practice Grace's unparalled perfection in everything she does (and in everything she is) will soon be the target of the community's envy and abuse. Nomatter what she does or how well she does it, every single member of the community (including the young leader) will at a certain point abuse Grace's kindness of hart. In fact Grace's condition of fugitive causes serious debate has a WANTED poster offering a major money reward is posted in the village. At this time we are talking about greed. They think: "ok she is nice, but what if she is a murderer? Why is she running? If we reveal her presence here we would get rid of an outlaw and even get paid for it!!"

In fact they end up revealing Grace's presence in Dogville.
The young beautifull woman looking for shelter was after all the dougther of a organized crime mafia Godfather, who intended in her escape from dadys protection to prove to him that people were not has he always said they were. She was deeply convinced (and wanted to prove) that people could change to something better.

Grace at the end of the movie tells his father (the gangster millionaire) to burn Dogville, because she lost her faith in them (or is Lars saying in the human kind) and sees nothing good in those persons.

I made a parallel between Grace as someking of Messias who arrived in a mission of peace and salvation and ended up being crucified.

The movie is bad, as Lars has been in recent films. There is no message intended, it's just the simpliest way of viewer emotion manipulation. A ritual all so present in Dancer in The Dark. If you enjoyed it, probably you have a tendency for masochism (which can be used in better ways – see
The Secretary).

And then there’s also Woody Allen…another director that preys on viewers pathological weaknessesº instead on building something new. But I’ll leave him for later.

º Denial being the first symptom.

That was the point, man can be as mean as they want, arrogance comes in many forms and expecting people to live by the standards you set for yourself will possibly result in havoc.

Fnatastic movie, simple message
